So what was the best movie last year? I personally think it wasn't quite as good as 2005.

The best movie club movies in 2006:
4. The Prestige = B+ 3. Little Miss Sunshine = B+ 2. Thank You For Smoking = B+ 1. The Departed = A-
There was no comparsion to 2005, only Broken Flowers (B+) and Serenity (B+) were worthy and even would rank #5 and #6 on the above list.

Well, I would agree that movie club covered more ground in 2006 as we had a full year of movies. I think the movies in general weren't as good as the previous year, however. You like Serenity way too much, which is okay because I probably liked Shopgirl too much! I still say Thank You For Smoking was the best movie club selection of 2006 and that Little Miss Sunshine is way way overrated.

I like The Prestige and The Departed. Little Miss Sunshine was good too.

You know, I really wanted to like The Prestige more than I did. I thought the cast was great, but the end just got a bit too much for me. Who are you supposed to sympathize with in that movie? You start out disliking Bale and liking Jackman. But Jackman flips out at the end and becomes pretty unsympathetic.
I daresay The Departed, tho, will finally get Scorsese his Oscar...
